Among the good deeds which a Muslim, who has not gone to perform Hajj, during the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah, should strive to do are:

Fasting

It is Sunnah to fast on the ninth day of Dhul-Hijjah, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) urged us to do good deeds during this time, and fasting is one of the best of deeds. Allaah has chosen fasting for Himself, as is stated in the hadeeth qudsi: "Allaah says: ‘All the deeds of the son of Adam are for him, except for fasting, which is for Me and I am the One Who will reward him for it.’" (Reported by al-Bukhaari, 1805). The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to fast on the ninth of Dhul-Hijjah. It is reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to fast on the ninth of Dhul-Hijjah, on the day of ‘Aashooraa’, on three days of each month, and on the first two Mondays and Thursdays of each month." (Reported by al-Nisaa’i, 4/205 and by Abu Dawud; classified by al-Albaani as saheeh in Saheeh Abi Dawud, 2/462). According to a hadith, the fast on the ninth of Dhul-Hijjah becomes a cause, hopefully so, of forgiveness for sins committed in one year.

Takbir-ut-tashriqتكبير تشريق

It is Sunnah to say Takbeer ("Allaahu akbar"), Tahmeed ("Al-hamdu Lillaah"), Tahleel ("La ilaha ill-Allaah") and Tasbeeh ("Subhaan Allaah") during the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah. In particular, it is obligatory (wajib) on each Muslim to recite the Takbir of Tashriq after every fard prayer beginning from the Fajr of the 9th Zulhijjah (the month of Hajj) up to the ‘Asr prayer of the 13th Zulhijjah.
The words to be recited are as follows:Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar -الله اكبر ,الله اكبرLa Ilaha Illallahu, Wallahu Akbar -لااله الاالله واللهاكبرAllahu Akbar wa lillahilhamd -الله اكبر ولله الحمد(Allah is the greatest, Allah is the greatest, There is no god but Allah, and Allah is the greatest, Allah is the greatest, and to Allah belongs all praise.)According to authentic Islamic sources, it is wajib on each Muslim, to recite this Takbir after every fard salah, whether one is performing salah with Jama’ah (collectively) or on own (individually). Muslim brothers should recite it in a loud voice, while sisters should recite it in a low voice.

Sacrifice

One of the good deeds that will bring a Muslim closer to Allah during these ten days is offering a sacrifice, by choosing a healthy animal. Sacrifice (or Qurbani, as is known in Urdu) can only be performed during the three days ofEid-ul-Adha, namely the 10th, Ilth and 12th of Dhul-Hijjah. It is only in these days that slaughtering of an animal is recognized as an act of worship. Although sacrifice is permissible on each of the three aforesaid days, it is preferable to perform it on the 10th of Dhul-Hijjah.

Repentance

Repentance means returning to Allah and foregoing all the deeds, open and secret, that He dislikes, out of regret for what has passed, giving it up immediately and being determined never to return to it. We must hasten to repent at once when we have committed a sin, in open or in secret.
A Muslim should ensure that he makes use of this golden opportunity provided by Allaah. May Allah enable us to make use of this opportunity.

Hajj Seminar - Sunday, July 17th after 'Asr Prayers

The month of Ramadhan was a time to increase awareness of Allah SWT and get closer to Him, and those who fulfilled it's requirements are naturally inclined to continue and increase in obedience to Him.

One of the greatest obligations a believer can look to fulfill in his lifetime is the performance of the Hajj, as the reward of an accepted Hajj is nothing less than Paradise. Along with having the love and fervor to fulfill this obligation to Allah SWT, it is important that we attain the required knowledge related to Hajj so that we may perform it in accordance to the Sunnah of our Messenger Sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam.

For this reason, Masjid-ut-Taqwa is pleased to announce that on Sunday, July 17th after 'Asr Prayer (7:15 PM) there will be a Hajj seminar for those intending to perform Hajj. The workshop will be conducted by Shaykh Ali Ahmed Rashadi of Sri Lanka, and it will be delivered in Tamil. Those intending to perform Hajj this year are highly encouraged to take part in this beneficial workshop as it will be an opportunity to ask any relevant questions that one intending Hajj may have.

3 Million Salutations upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (Peace and Blessings be Upon Him)

Media reports indicate that a magazine is to publish 3 million copies of its new edition with a cartoon depiction of our beloved Prophet Mohammed (salutations upon him equal to the count of all creations ever created by Allah) on its front cover.Rather than resort to merely changing our whatsapp profile picture exhibiting our love for the Prophet (salutations upon him equal to the count of each evil thought and word ever spoken against him), it would be more beneficial and poignant to send salutations upon him abundantly at this very disheartening time. Let us reach a count of 3 million salutations upon our beloved Prophet (salutations upon him equal to every evil word ever written against him)by today; on a day when others attempt to mock his status.

O'Lord, send salutations, greetings and blessings upon our leader Muhammad and upon the household of our leader Muhammad; the noblest of the noble ones from among your servants and the most eminent of the callers to Your guidance. Salutations that never finish and never cease.

Advice from Shaykh Abdul Raheem:

Guidelines for the Muslim Community regarding new cartoons to be published Tomorrow- Wednesday 14 January 2015

The following points are general guidelines for Muslims on how to initially deal with and immediately react to the depiction of Prophet Muhammad in magazines due to be published tomorrow(WEDNESDAY).

1. For every Muslim, Love of the Prophet is a NECESSARY part of his/her FAITH. He is dearer to us than our mothers, fathers, sons & daughters. We prefer him to our own self.

2. The publishing of cartoons will definitely hurt the sentiments of 1.8 billion Muslims around the world, as well as millions of non-Muslims who respect the great personality of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

3. Muslims do believe in freedom of speech. And they do respect the right for people to say what they believe to be correct. However, we all know that there is no such thing as absolute free speech. There are laws to protect the dignity and properties of people. We urge all decent minded Governments and individuals to respect these sensitivities, as we should respect all races and religions.

4. As it is clear that the cartoons are to be published again, Muslims will inevitably be hurt and angered, but our reaction must be a reflection of the teachings of the one we love & are angered for, . Enduring patience, tolerance, gentleness and mercy as was the character of our beloved Prophet (peace and Blessings be upon him) is the best and immediate way to respond.

With dignified nobility we must be restrained, as the Quran says “And when the ignorant speak to them, they say words of Peace.”

Our aim is to not, inadvertently, give the cartoons more prominence through our attention. Muslims must remain calm and peaceful in their speech and actions. Repel harm with goodness is the Qur’anic imperative and by which the Prophet Muhammad lived. Legal action, civil protest, letter writing & other legal avenues can then be considered, insha Allah.

5. Muslims have to remember that by depicting the Prophet , no one can ever tarnish his image, as he is way beyond what is depicted, as Allah says, ‘We have elevated for you your name’. We should spend such regrettable moments in reading lots of Durood, sending salawaat and blessings to his beloved personality. May Allah's mercy, peace & blessing be upon his soul.

6. Engage with others about your feelings. Speak of your love for the Prophet and do not be shy to let your non-Muslims friends know your justified anger at the mockery that is made of our faith. People need to know HOW MUCH WE LOVE OUR NABI

7. Learn more & share more about the great Prophet Muhammed

Hassaan bin Thaabit (may Allah be pleased with him) describes him with the following couplets:

"My eyes have never seen anyone more perfect than you

No woman has given birth to anyone more handsome than you

You have been created free from all defects

As if you were created the way you wished"

8. We should, through our actions and deeds, display the sublime character of the Prophet (peace be upon him). The Prophet faced many great challenges but he exhibited impeccable beauty and character in his actions. He did not react inhumanely or violently. He was attacked verbally and physically in Taif but he forgave the people. His uncle and companions were murdered but he reacted peacefully and in a human manner. And there are many such examples from the seerah of the Prophet (peace be upon him) we must display.

9. As British[1] citizens we must not allow tragic incidents of Paris allow hate to creep into our hearts. Muslims, non-Muslims and people of all backgrounds must come together and show unity and solidarity and not let it divide our communities. We must remember the statements of the Prophet (peace be upon him) such as: “Someone who unjustly kills a Dhimmi (non-Muslim person under protection) cannot attain a whiff of Heaven. However, its fragrance is felt from a distance of forty years. (Sahih Bukhari), or, “He who hurts a Dhimmi (non-Muslim person under protection) hurts me, and he who hurts me annoys Allah.” (Tabarani) And many other similar hadiths highlighting that Muslims are not allowed to hurt their non-Muslim brothers and sisters in humanity.

10. We must continuously supplicate to Allah that He rectifies our situation. Pray to Him that the chaos, injustice and oppression is lifted from our society. We should pray to Allah so that He makes Britain[2] a better, fairer and just country for all. Pray to Him to aid the oppressed and the victims of the oppressors in France and all over the world. Pray that He allows us to contribute to a more peaceful and just world. Sincerely pray at night and beseech Him to protect our honour and our dignity.

May Allah give us the ability to do what is right and avoid what is wrong. May Allah protect the humanity from trials and tribulations. Ameen

FORWARD TILL IT REACHES THE FARTHEST PLACES AND SALUTATIONS ARE SENT BY ALL. SEND SO WE REACH 3 MILLION SALUTATIONS.
